Jim and Marjorie Dawson are from the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise Jim Dawson is a retired professional engineer; Marjorie Dawson, also an engineer is a retired President of a pipeline company. They have developed three RI Global Grants: a water filter project in Honduras and two eye health Global Grants in India - one was completed in Dec 2018 and the Kanpur Vision centre project which is well under way. Jim and Marjorie have been working with the remote fly-in First Nation Pikangikum for over 6 years on a number of programs. Their work with the school has included fire safety and support for the music program and the outdoor education program where they have provided supplies such as musical instruments, prizes for the annual Battle of the Bands and outdoor equipment including snowshoes, canoe and camping equipment and they teach canoeing in June each year. Working with New Hope Bikes of Hamilton, they provided a bike repair trailer and this year were taking the ice road to Pikangikum taking mountain bikes, musical instruments, skates and winter boots as well as conducting a Basketball clinic while there. |

Julia Surette is an award-winning Canadian-American soprano with a range of performances and opera companies noteworthy for her young age. Julia has sung the title role of Sally in Thomas and Sally (McGill, Montreal) , Atalanta in Serse (Lucca, Italy), and Despina in Cosi fan tutte (University of Cincinnati), among others. Julia returns to Lucca Italy in the summer of 2019 performing in the role of Serpetta in La finta Giardiniera. Julia has been recognized in numerous opera competitions and is the recipient of the prestigious La Concours de Musique de la Capitale (Quebec, Canada), as well as McGill Scholarship for highest achievement in her class. Accreditations include a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at McGill University and Canada’s Royal Conservatory for both Voice Performance and Piano. She is fluent in English and Italian, and has proficiency in French and German. Julia will complete her Master of Music in Europe in 2022, then pursuing a career in professional Opera. |

We will be planting at the New Forest in the City site, conducting an infill project. We will be using the Abbott Court entrance. To get there, participants will take highway #403 to Garden Ave south then go South on Garden Ave to the Abbott Court street lights. Right on Garden Ave. https://www.mapquest.com/canada/on/brantford/n3s/31-abbott-crt-43.163518,-80.212945?zoom=16 Participants should park in the “Commuter” Parking Lot off of Abbott Court which is directly across the road from Abbott Court. Timeframe will be from 9:30 (start to get there setup etc), plant when ready, and finish up around 12:00-12:30 depending on how it goes and how many participants we get out. Also, leaving it open to a get together afterwards at Tin Cup for those who want to be social!

President Paul Oddi and Sunrise President Phil Race invite you to the Brantford Golf & Country Club on Wednesday July 3rd, 2019 from 5:30pm - 7:30 pm for an evening of fellowship and fun. Scrumptious Food ... Cold drinks (cash bar) For the purpose of ordering food WE MUST KNOW IF YOU ARE ATTENDING There will be a cash bar. Both Clubs have a small budget for food and we are asking all members and guests who attend to pay $10 towards some nice appetizers. (Please note this is not a full dinner.) Phil McColeman, MP BIO – 2019 Short Version Phil was first elected to the House of Commons in 2008, re-elected in 2011, and re-elected to a third term in October 2015 as the Member of Parliament for Brantford-Brant. Phil is currently the Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs Canada. He has also held the position of Treasury Board Critic, Deputy Finance Critic, Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and Status of Persons with Disabilities (HUMA) and as Chair of the Conservative Housing and Construction Caucus, and Vice Chair of the Conservative Post-Secondary Education Caucus. As Brantford-Brant's federal representative, Phil is recognized as a hard-working constituency MP and a strong voice for his constituents in Ottawa. Well known for his popular community initiatives like his Passport Clinics, Community Shred Days, and the widely successful Hockey Night in Brantford which has raised significant funds for local charities. A lifelong resident of Brant, Phil has demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to family, community and public service having served as Vice-Chair of the Brantford Police Services Board, Director of the Brantford Brant Regional Chamber of Commerce, Governor of Wilfrid Laurier University and Director and President of Lansdowne Children’s Centre. Phil and his wife Nancy have been married for 43 years and are the proud parents of four grown children and have four grandchildren. |

BIO from website. Sherry will introduce. Robert "Bob" Artis District Governor 2019 - 2020 Bob is a caring, passionate, and deeply spiritual person and as such, he has dedicated his life to helping and mentoring others.
Bob currently works in Buffalo, NY as a consultant with Sinai Consulting, LLC, a global hi-tech staffing and consulting group that provides advice and counsel to help globally competitive companies attract top talent in the field of Robotics.
Bob grew up in (the boot hill) southeast Missouri, USA and is a distinguished veteran of the Army, as well as a former civilian defense contractor with assignments in Thailand and Germany. Bob also has experience working in an academic environment and corporate management.
One of Bob’s main passions with Rotary involves building relationships and connecting people globally for the greater good. Because of some of those connections, Bob and his Rotarian colleagues have accomplished countless community service projects including an impressive water and sanitation Global Grant project for a village in Thailand, in 2017.
Bob has been known to frequent Rotary International Conventions (thirteen thus far) and several Rotary and United Nations Peace Conferences. He is a past president of the Rotary Club of Clarence and has served in numerous district level positions: Assistant Governor (twice), Gift of Life Committee, Ambassadorial Scholars Committee, as well as Rotary Group Study Exchange Team Leader to Thailand.
Because of his deep belief in the good works done in the name of Rotary, Bob is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Sustaining Member, Benefactor, and Bequest Society member of The Rotary Foundation.
Bob is also an ordained Deacon, has served with American Red Cross disaster relief and as a Board Chair for NY/PA regional blood services.
He and his wife, Corine, (of 55 years) have four sons; Lamonte, Ian (deceased), Tony (deceased), and Keith; 10 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Bob has enjoyed being an active member of the Rotary Club of Clarence since 1987. He and Corine have also graciously hosted Youth Exchange Students from five countries and GSE Teams from three countries.
During his time spent in Rotary, there have been some extraordinary personal experiences, and he has many stories to share.
